Well friends, I officially feel worthy of rocking my Nigerian last name. We went to the motherland and I had the pleasure of experiencing Lagos. Bori’s mom and grandma also went at around the same time, but for a longer trip. His mom hadn’t been back to Nigeria since their family moved here in 2009!
Some things that stood out:
- People bolting across main roads when there are cars coming
- People driving on the wrong side of the road. Basically no traffic rules
- People shouting the Yoruba word for “white person” when they spotted me
- The deliciously spicy food
- The joy on my new relatives’ faces when I did the proper Yoruba greetings ❤
